LGBTQ+

Denton Community College is inclusive of all students irrespective of sexual orientation or gender expression. In order to ensure we are effective as possible in our commitment to our students, we are working towards The Rainbow Flag Award from the Proud Trust

Inclusive Curriculum

To support all students gain an understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and to help tackle the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community we have developed an inclusive PSHE curriculum that teaches the importance of equality and respect. In line with the new Relationship Education and RSE Curriculum, this is fully integrated across the PSHE program and not delivered as an addition.

Pastoral Support

Our pastoral team is fully skilled in supporting students who identify as LGBTQ+. If you would like to discuss your child or have any queries regarding our policies or procedures please contact your child’s Head of Year.

Pupil Voice

The voice of our LGBTQ+ students is important to us. To ensure this voice is heard effectively, we have a successful and well attended Pride Group that meets at lunchtime and after school. Additionally, we have two student LGBTQ+ advocates on the student council and a regular focus group runs to monitor the progress of any policy change or suggest areas for improvement.
