BBC School Report News Day



STOP PRESS......Year 8 students are preparing themselves for the BBC School Reports Day on 21st March.


They will not only be watching the news, they will be making it, with videos, podcasts, and newsreader style reporting....WATCH THIS SPACE... and make a diary note to check back here on 21st March to see the reports as they appear.



BBC School Report by two year 8 students


On Friday 15th February, ten lucky students from Denton Community College were selected to take part in the BBC school report. Here is a detailed account of their day and what it entailed…


The day began by meeting the tour guide, Rebecca Kelly, and brain- storming what type of news is making headlines at the moment. They then began a full tour of the BBC, gaining access to places such as The BBC Breakfast Studio, The Radio Studios and many more… They also witnessed a radio show being broadcast live.





Later in the day, they took our previous brainstorm ideas and pitched them to editors, researchers, broadcast journalists and producers of the BBC, while also hearing their plans for News to be broadcasted the following week. This gave them an insightful look into the factors considered when planning a news report.



Then they split into groups and began to think of questions to ask in an interview with Becky Want, a BBC Radio Manchester presenter. The interview went extremely well and was later broadcast on national radio. The interview was later edited by the students using the high tech Mac computers.


Another interesting part of the day was a visit to the BBC Sport Studio. Students were able to stand around the table and see how the robotic cameras worked.



All in all, the students had a wonderful day and were very grateful to be given such an opportunity. School Report was an amazing idea and even inspired some future careers in that area. They loved it!
