Students get to experience many different fields of Graphic Design including Illustration, Technical Drawing, Product Design and use of all modern day Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) programs.




 Starting in Year 7, the students experience grounding in Graphic Design and build on these skills through years 8 & 9 ready for Progression into GCSE courses.


Examples include:

Introduction into Technical Drawing: For the first few weeks year 7 will complete an introductory course into technical drawing where they learn how to draw accurately in 3D. They learn how to draw in Isometric, Perspective, Orthographic and Plan views. From here they complete a mini course in 3D modelling on Google Sketch up.

Movie Project: Working in the style of a chosen designer the students design their own advertising campaign for a movie. DVD Packaging, Poster Designs and mock up Billboards all created using Adobe Photoshop.

Aftershave/Perfume Project: Students create new fragrance and all of its packaging. They work in both 2D (CAD) designing work on Adobe Photoshop and 3D models using practical equipment to sculpt a bottle design out of Styrofoam.




GCSE Course in Graphic Products is split into 3 smaller projects in Year 10 where they experience an Illustration project for a Greetings Card, a demanding Technical Drawing project, an Advertising project for a new soft drink which is completed using Adobe Illustrator.


Year 11 is a Major Project running throughout the year where the students specialise in one or more areas of Graphics and produce a product which has been designed from start to finish.


Examples include:


Interior/Architecture Design: Shops, Café, Bars, Restaurants.

Concept Design: Digital Camera, Computer Game Controller, Board Games.

Packaging and Point of Sale Display: Computer Game Branding and Advertising, Rebranding existing products and packaging.
