Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance [CEIAG]

Work Experience will take place week commencing 30th March 2020

At Denton Community College we aim to deliver a careers curriculum that inspires our students and allows them to make an informed decision on their future career pathway. The curriculum is delivered through a number of events covering all year groups:

  • Impartial careers guidance interview delivered by a careers adviser from Positive Steps. This is important to help identify suitable career pathways for individual students and supports them in making applications to colleges and apprenticeships.
  • An annual Careers Fair which involves local businesses, training providers and colleges. Every student in the school attends the event giving them the opportunity to gather information from employers about different vocational pathways and employment sectors.

  • As a school we have strong links with local businesses and this allows us to offer mentoring programmes with local employers, employment sector presentations and workshops specific to vocational areas.

  • All Year 11 pupils receive a mock interview with a local employer and have a completed CV to ensure that they are fully prepared for entering their next career step.

  • Excellent relationships with local colleges and post 16 training providers who deliver presentations and application sessions to ensure that our students are fully aware of the training routes available to them once they leave school.

  • To inform students about apprenticeships we work alongside apprenticeship providers to complete presentations, workshops and application sessions to ensure that the students choosing this career pathway are supported in their applications.

  • In Year 10 every student has the opportunity to attend at least one college taster day. This gives the students the chance to experience a day at college and sample some of the college courses that are available to them.

  • We aim to inform and inspire our students about higher education through university visits to a variety of universities throughout the country. This gives the students to learn about the different courses, entry requirements and student life.

  • We encompass a Business and Enterprise programme and offer all students in Year 10 a week work experience and encourage them to self place to foster resilience and independence.
